Making a difference: Health, Education and a Path to prosperity for Sri Lankan people

SevaSerendib

We are dedicated to empowering underprivileged communities across Sri Lanka by championing access to quality healthcare, fostering transformative education, and building sustainable bridges to move away from poverty. Together, we can create a healthier, more educated, and prosperous future for every individual.

Our Story

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” — Desmond Tutu

SevaSerendib is an organization dedicated to uplifting living standards in Sri Lanka for underprivileged communities by creating opportunities for better health care, improved education, and pathways out of poverty toward prosperity. Our young organization is made up of a growing membership of professionals living in the United States and Canada who are passionate about helping the Sri Lankan people overcome the hardships they face in their pursuit of a better life.

Our nascent organization comprises a group of passionate professionals based in the United States and Canada, united by a deep love for the people of Sri Lanka and a shared commitment to stand beside them as they navigate hardship in pursuit of hope and opportunity.

The idea for SevaSerendib was born during conversations among a group of San Francisco Bay Area professionals and cycling enthusiasts during a 250 km cycling trek from Colombo to Jaffna in February 2025, organized by the Trek4Ceylon organization. In May 2025, they gathered with friends over lunch at a restaurant in San Jose, Silicon Valley, and formally founded SevaSerendib.

The name carries both history and purpose. Serendib is an ancient Persian name for Sri Lanka, once used by Arab traders. Seva, rooted in Sanskrit, means selfless service. Together, they form our identity: a service to Sri Lanka, guided by compassion.

Our logo tells our story—a caring hand gently uplifting the people of Sri Lanka above a blooming lotus flower, symbolizing renewal, compassion, and prosperity.
